Our Curriculums We use four different curriculums at Smart-E-Pants, Inc. The Spalding Method for language arts, Saxon Pre-K for mathematics, Mother Goose Time for thematic units, and our own Spanish curriculum. Spalding is a method of language arts instructions. It provides explicit, sequential, multi-sensory instruction in spelling (including phonics and handwriting), writing, and listening/reading comprehension, most of which is oral at this stage. The Saxon Pre-K math was designed to provide young children with an introduction to the most basic of mathematical concepts and to make them aware of how these concepts are at work in their everyday lives. The Saxon math program employs the same incremental development and continuous review found in other Saxon programs but in a less structured manner, allowing kids to move more quickly or slowly through the content as directed by the range of abilities in our classroom. We also use Mother Goose Time for all of our thematic units. This is a program that is specifically designed for preschool age children. It features two thematic units a month, and provides us with all the materials needed in order to make fun, creative, and skill appropriate arts and crafts. Spanish is integrated into every part of our program. Plus, children receive an additional 15 minutes of specific vocabulary and Spanish language building daily. Our Spanish themes usually tie in with our Mother Goose Time thematic units. Our goal is not that every child leave Smart-E-Pants, Inc., bilingual, but that they be exposed to a second language and have an opportunity to learn basic vocabulary, phrases, numbers and colors.
