Nutrition Proper nutrition is one of the keys to a child’s success in early childhood education. It’s important to us that children get a well-balanced meal, enough rest, and that we promote good hygiene. We provide two snacks and lunch for full day students, and one snack and lunch for pre-school only students. Because we feed 16 children a day, our menu consists of foods that the children like, meals that are easy to prepare and cost efficient, and of course, meet the USDA food requirements. Children have the option of either milk or water with their meals. Juice is reserved for special occasions. If children have milk/ or food allergies, parents are responsible for providing a supplement. View our menu below. Smart-E-Pants, Inc., also receives government subsidies because we meet all the USDA food requirements. We participate through the Mid-Columbia Community Action Council, located in The Dalles, OR. We submit our menu and child attendance summary monthly. You can view the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) information below. After lunch and outside play time, our full day students rest from approximately 1:00-2:00 pm. During this time, kids are allowed to watch a video or read a book. Children, who fall asleep, are allowed to rest until approximately 3:00 pm. During this down time, the kids go to the bathroom, wash their hands, and brush their teeth. They use their own toothbrushes and a small amount of fluoride to brush and rinse with. If you have any further questions regarding our menu, or the CACFP, please contact Amber Bardin at amber@smartepants.biz
